After my residency in Iowa I decided to try and get as much time working on music as possible. So I moved to San Francisco to house-sit for my girlfriends mom. It was an amazing home in Corona heights, just a few houses down from where Richard Brautigan finished "In Watermelon Sugar". It overlooked the Castro and I went on so many runs up to the Sutro Tower.
I wrote this song the 2nd day I got there. I always imagined it being about a symbolic intersection in a city where we end up when we hit rock bottom.... Market and Black.

lyrics
Please Don't regret
out like a bird that won't fly
Please be yourself
follow the sound that won't echo then die
Follow the heat that seeks to be warm
seek all the winters deep in your thorns
Mark it in Black (Market and Black)
spray all your images bleeding and cracked
Wash all these walls
carpet and clutter stink up the halls
Echo your insides hollowed and gray
Carry your voice so far away
